Overview

The project management and construction of a 5 MLD (Million Liters per Day) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for M/s. Sainath Envirotech  is a comprehensive civil engineering endeavour that involves careful planning, design, procurement, execution, and commissioning to ensure efficient wastewater treatment. The first phase of the project begins with the thorough assessment of the site, including soil testing, topography, and environmental impact analysis. This ensures the plant's design complies with local regulations and environmental standards. The project requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineers working in close coordination. The design phase focuses on determining the most suitable treatment processes such as activated sludge, MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor), or SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor), which will be tailored to treat wastewater effectively while minimizing operational costs. The structural design of the plant includes the construction of various components such as the influent chamber, aeration tanks, clarifiers, sludge drying beds, and discharge units. Special attention is given to the selection of materials that are durable and corrosion-resistant due to the harsh environment of a sewage treatment plant. The mechanical components, including pumps, blowers, and mixers, are chosen for their reliability and efficiency. The electrical engineering aspect involves the installation of control systems, automation equipment, and power distribution systems that ensure the plant operates smoothly and efficiently. The project is executed in phases, beginning with excavation, civil foundation work, and the construction of the main treatment units. Careful project scheduling is vital to ensure timely completion while avoiding cost overruns. During construction, safety protocols are strictly enforced, and the workforce is trained to handle hazardous materials and equipment. Quality control measures are also in place to ensure that all materials and construction practices meet the required specifications. Regular inspections and tests are conducted during construction to detect any issues at an early stage. The commissioning phase involves the startup of the plant, testing the entire system, and fine-tuning the operations. This phase also includes the training of plant operators to ensure they are proficient in managing the day-to-day operations. Environmental monitoring is conducted to ensure that the treated water meets the required quality standards before being discharged into water bodies or reused for non-potable purposes. The successful completion of the 5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant not only addresses the wastewater treatment needs of the community but also contributes to sustainable water management and environmental protection. Proper documentation and handover procedures are completed before the project is formally closed. Ultimately, the project management of the STP involves a blend of technical expertise, effective coordination, and stringent adherence to timelines and budgets, ensuring the delivery of a robust, sustainable, and environmentally responsible sewage treatment system for M/s. Sainath Envirotech.
The challenge we faced was keeping the 25 year old Pumping Station inside the premises, without getting affected, to complete the project and finally divert the heavy inflow lively to our new built intake well.
Second challenge was to fit the 5 MLD Plant in the given mere space, which was highly appreciated by Kerala Water Authority officials. You can see below the layout of total plant below.
